Sunlight can be very discomforting, especially during the hot season, but before you go all in just to avoid a ray of light from the sun, let us get through with an enlightening explanation.
It is not just plants that absorb and metabolize sunlight. Human beings do it too. However, the relationship between sun exposure and health in humans is not as straightforward as we might want it to be.Genes are a factor of how humans metabolize sunlight; as is skin type. For instance, people with pale skin that burns easily in the sun are likely to get skin cancer if exposed to too much sun. The timing and duration of exposure is also a crucial factor when it comes to how our bodies metabolize sunlight.

Exposure to the sun should be done SLOWLY! If you are not used to the sun, then your skin will be more sensitive to it. Avoid sunburn by building up your tolerance SLOWLY.

- Exposure to early morning sunlight for 10 to 15 minutes (without sunscreen) is a good option.
- Avoid direct sunlight during the peak hours of the day between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
- If required to be out in the sun during the peak hours, apply sunscreen on exposed body parts, wear proper clothes and wear a cap, sun-glasses, or use an umbrella.
